What we do in this class:
Kata are the foundation of traditional karate and the JoSanLu curriculum. Inspired by Chinese martial arts, Kata were developed in Okinawa as a method to remember, teach, and practice fighting techniques.
Beginning students study simpler kata with basic movements. As students advance they learn longer and more complex kata, at the same time gaining insight into the application of underlying fighting techniques.
Execution of Kata requires strength, speed, and precision, and builds mindfulness and self-discipline.
Please bring along:
If you are participating for the first time, loose exercise clothes and bare feet are all you need! If you attend classes on a regular basis, you will need a white karate uniform known as a gi.
